OPSB Business Department receives perfect audit report

Ouachita Parish School Board received an unmodified opinion with no findings on the agency’s financial statements and compliance audit for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2023. The unmodified “clean” opinion from an independent accounting firm is the highest opinion possible.

“This audit opinion in an affirmation of our commitment to be good stewards of the responsibility entrusted to us by the Ouachita Parish community,” said Regina Mekus, OPSB Business Director. “This audit not only reflects the hard work of the Business Department, but every department, every location, every person in our system working together for the good of our students.”

The annual comprehensive audit report was conducted by Allen, Green & Williamson, a certified public accounting firm in Monroe. Margie Williamson presented the report at the February School Board Meeting, stating the clean opinion on the financial statements was the best opinion one could get.

“We take a lot of pride in our audits, in trying to make sure that we’re very meaningful in how we spend our money and doing things the right way,” said Superintendent Todd Guice. “I want to thank Ms. Williamson and their group. This is an almost year-round task every year. I certainly want to thank Regina and her entire staff, and I want to thank our entire district.”

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the School Board for its Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022.  This was the thirty-fifth consecutive year that the School Board has received this prestigious award.

Also, for the thirty-fifth consecutive year, the School Board received the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2022.

Management believes this year's report complies with the standards and principles of these two prestigious organizations and has submitted the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2023 to ASBO and GFOA for consideration of awards.
