OPSB ReOpening Update: Monday - Teacher Workday, Tuesday - Students Return

OPSB ReOpening Update: Monday - Teacher Workday, Tuesday - Students Return

Ouachita Parish Schools will re-open schools on Monday, Feb. 1 for TEACHERS ONLY. This will be treated as a workday. Students will report back on Tuesday, Feb. 2 for a regular scheduled school day, following the weeklong closure due to Winter Storm Fern.

This decision was made after visiting and assessing damages at all 37 school campuses and keeping these three major factors in mind:

1. Conditions of bus routes

2. Cafeteria food shortage

3. Continued maintenance to school buildings

Ouachita Parish School Board and its leaders understand there are still lingering effects of Winter Storm Fern. However, the district feels that moving towards the ultimate goal of reopening schools is in the best interest of the community – and most importantly its students. An outline for attendance protocol for employees and students has been provided to principals and will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
