NEW PRINCIPAL Q&A: Chantay Johnson, Sterlington Middle

How did you get into education?

As a high school senior, I had the opportunity to assist in a Kindergarten class during my "off-period." That experience opened my eyes and confirmed my desire to work with and for others in the education profession.

When did you realize you wanted to go beyond the classroom and become an administrator?

After seventeen years of classroom teaching, I felt a calling to leadership and the opportunity to impact a greater population. I know that God has been by my side through every step of my professional journey.

What kind of leader do you want to be?

I aspire to be an engaging and supportive instructional leader who leads by example and creates a culture where excellence is the standard.

What do you want to accomplish in the first nine weeks as principal?

I look forward to continuing to grow the culture of excellence we are establishing at "Our House" and living out our mission as our daily standard. We have been very intentional in our efforts towards attendance, positive behavior, instruction, and family engagement. Our ultimate goal is to see every student grow and achieve to their fullest potential, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to contribute to the success of our students and staff. Our future is bright! It's a GREAT day to be a PANTHER!

Who is Chantay away from school? Tell us about your personal life, hobbies and your family.

Outside of school, I love to spend time with my family, travel, cheer on the LSU Tigers, and reenergize with yoga, Pilates, and walking.
