BOARD BRIEFS: May Board Meeting

The Ouachita Parish School Board recognized recent state champions from Ouachita Parish Schools during Tuesday’s regular board meeting.

The West Monroe High boys powerlifting team, coached by Knute Douglas, captured the LHSAA Division I Boys State Championship for the second consecutive year. The Sterlington High girls softball team, coached by Jeff Tannehill, won the 2026 LHSAA Division III Non-Select Softball State Championship.

The Board also recognized individual state champions from the 2026 LHSAA Track and Field State Meet:

·         Cody Nelson, Ouachita High, Class 5A Boys Triple Jump

·         Presley Parks-Smith, Sterlington High, Class 3A Boys Javelin

·         Jaxon Talley, West Monroe High, Class 5A Boys Javelin

·         Madison Boyd, West Ouachita High, Class 4A Girls 300 Meter Hurdles

·         Jack Kelly, West Ouachita High, Class 4A Boys 3200 Meters

Change Orders

The School Board approved change orders for the following construction projects:

Lenwil Elementary

The Board approved a change order for the cafeteria renovation. The $94,282.21 change order is covered by Westside sales tax revenue and will fund repairs to water issues at the school.

Sterlington High

The Board approved a change order for the Sterlington High baseball field. The $149,165 order is covered by Eastside bond and will fund the construction of a canopy for the new bleachers at the field.

Personnel Report

·         Allison Keyes was named the new principal at Kiroli Elementary. Keyes previously served as an assistant principal at Kiroli Elementary.

·         Jennifer Routon was named the new assistant principal at Good Hope Middle. Routon previously served as the curriculum coordinator at Good Hope Middle.

·         Benjy Lewis was named the new assistant principal at Good Hope Middle. Lewis previously served as head football coach and athletic director at Ouachita High.

·         Robbie Evans was named the new assistant principal at Sterlington Middle. Evans previously served as a teacher at Sterlington Middle.

·         Amanda Alsup was named the new assistant principal at Claiborne Elementary. Alsup previously served as librarian at Claiborne Elementary.

·         Kristy Fine was named the new assistant principal at Woodlawn Elementary. Fine previously served as a Title 1 coordinator for Ouachita Parish Schools.
