BOARD BRIEFS: June Board Meeting

The Ouachita Parish School Board received a post Winter Storm Fern update from Entergy during Tuesday’s regular board meeting.

Entergy commended Ouachita Parish Schools for its cooperation during Winter Storm Fern, which hit the area on January 24. Ouachita Parish Schools provided school campuses for Entergy to use as staging and warming sites for workers and the community. Leadership from Entergy and Ouachita Parish Schools coordinated efforts to ensure that school resumed on February 3.

Finance Committee

The School Board accepted the following recommendations from the Ouachita Parish Schools Finance Committee:

·         Revision of the general fund operating fund.

·         Adjustment to the hourly rate of the School Board’s legal council.

·         Consider increasing the property capitalization threshold from $5,000 to $10,000 beginning on July 1.

·         Table considering an increase in full-time nursing positions.

Change Orders

The School Board approved a change order to the track and field renovations project at Ouachita Junior. The $79,280.20 is covered by Eastside Bond fund and will cover land stabilization and drainage issues around the track.

Personnel Report

·         Leslie Breen was named the new assistant principal at Kiroli Elementary. Breen previously served as a teacher at Kiroli Elementary.
