Give Kids a Smile Day Held at Riser SBHC

The annual 'Give Kids a Smile Day' was recently held at the Riser School Based Health Center's dental clinic. The event was sponsored by the Ouachita Parish  School Board School Based Health Center (SBHC) in partnership with University of Louisiana Monroe Dental Hygiene Program and the Northeast Louisiana Dental Association. Twelve local dentists volunteered their time at Riser to conduct dental screenings for decay and sealants and to provide dental education to the students as they examined them. ULM Dental Hygiene Program instructors and students assisted the dentists with the oral examinations. Each student patient received a goody bag with dental supplies provided by Schein Dental Company. The SBHC dental clinic staff will follow-up on each child screened to apply sealants and refer them to a local dentist for any problems identified.
