Any child who reaches their fifth birthday by September 30 may enter kindergarten any time up until the end of the first semester. After mid-term, children who have not been in kindergarten must score a 90% proficiency on the Brigance K & 1 Screen Test and 50th percentile on the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test (K-Bit) for entrance into kindergarten and/or have a recommendation by Pupil Appraisal Staff.
If a child’s birthday falls between October 1, 1995 and December 31, 1995 and the child scores 95% proficiency on the Brigance K and 1 Screen Test and 50th percentile on K-Bit, the child may enter kindergarten based on a recommendation by Pupil Appraisal Staff.
Ouachita Parish will administer the CTB McGraw Hill Assessment Battery Test to be used as the Kindergarten Developmental Readiness Screening instrument. This test will be administered during the first few days of school.
Kindergarten is organized on a full day schedule. These children are in school at least six hours each day.
