Did you know that February 1st was National Wear Red Day? It's not too late to participate, just pick a date and get the word out at your school. The main thing to remember is that heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases are the No. 1 killer of American women. In this fast paced world of dancing, ball practice and other family obligations, not to mention your job, it's easy to get out of touch with feelings and miss even obvious signs that our hearts may be at risk. I was 49 years old when I was diagnosed with left main disease, better known as WIDOWMAKER. Heart disease runs in my family but I never thought it would affect me. This disease knows no age. That is why it is so important we get the word out. And you can help!!
Our goal is to have a 25% reduction in coronary heart disease and stroke by the year 2010. By teaching men and woman how to talk to their doctors about heart disease, we can save thousands of lives a year because heart disease is often preventable! By sharing our experiences as women we can help each other and the ones we love to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. My name is Rhonda LaBorde (laborde@opsb.net) and I GO RED for my husband, family and friends and especially my 19 month old grand-daughter. Hopefully with all the changes we have made in our lives, and the knowledge we have now, she will not be at risk for heart disease and will continue the teaching of GO RED FOR WOMEN!
