In an announcement made Wednesday, state Superintendent of Education, Paul Pastorek named 20 schools in the state that are excelling at closing the gap in achievement of Louisiana's students who are from different economic backgrounds. Nine northeastern Louisiana schools are among those receiving special recognition from the state Department of Education for best serving their particular student populations. Of the northeastern Louisiana schools recognized, three Ouachita Parish Schools ranked among the top 20: Shady Grove Elementary – 4th, Robinson Elementary – 9th, and Swayze Elementary – 19th. Swayze Elementary showed the greatest improvement of the nine in school performance score with an increase of 9.6 points in three years.
