OPSB.net - Art Quest 2007 for Ouachita Parish Schools

ArtQuest 2007 is a visual and literary exhibit/competition sponsored by the Ouachita Parish School System and is coordinated by Michaele Price and Angela Leach. The many facets of the ArtQuest will take place at the West Monroe Convention Center. The show will exhibit the artistic and literary talents of students from kindergarten through 12th grade in the Ouachita Parish School System. The ambitious project helps to realize the philosophy of arts education: the arts are a vital part of the education of the whole child.

Art works will be judged on Monday, April 30. The age divisions for judging are K - 3, 4 - 6, Middle school and High School. Winning works will be hung in the winner's circle. Prior to the show, literary works were judged and the winners were announced in April. First place winners in each division of poetry and short stories will be matted and hung with the winning art works. A reception will be held for all winning literary and artworks on May 3, at 7:00 at the West Monroe Convention center.

Other activities will include classes where first, third and fifth grade students will experience hands-on art-projects, drama, story telling and dance/rhythmic activities. In the Drama, workshops will be offered in improvisation, stage makeup, creating characters "out of a trunk", musical theatre and mime. The West Monroe High School Theatre Department along with these classes, will also have performances from Aesop's Fables and Cinderella. The WMHS Theatre Troupe will be doing special performances of Cinderella - Friday, May 4 for Kindergarten, second and fourth grades. Performances are at 9:00 A.M., 11:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. at the WMHS auditorium. Admission is $1.00. For reservations contact Shirley Fields.
