Two West Ouachita High School counselors, Kristina Pitts and Teresa Mayeaux, were recently approved for licensure as Licensed Professional Counselors by the LPC Board. The LPC Board of Examiners is a state board whose members are appointed by the Louisiana Governor to carry out the general oversight of professional counselors in Louisiana. LPCs provide psychotherapeutic services to treat individuals and families with life crises, mental disorders and related mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, stress, grief, and behavior problems. Ms. Pitts and Mrs. Mayeaux applied for and received their licensure after two years of supervision under a qualified Louisiana LPC Supervisor. Visit the board's website (www.lpcboard.org) for more information about Licensed Professional Counselors. In addition to the LPC credential, Ms. Pitts is a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Mrs. Mayeaux is a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a National Certified School Counselor (NCSC). Both women consider professional improvement to keep up with advances in mental health counseling a critical component in meeting the needs of their students and the increasing challenges of school counseling.
