OPHS Band Brings Home Eight Trophies

On October 15th, the Ouachita High School “Pride of Ouachita” Marching Band attended the DeRidder Marching Festival. Fifteen marching bands from across the state performed at the festival. The Pride of Ouachita was awarded eight trophies: Superior ratings in Drum Major, Auxiliary, Percussion, and Band; Sweepstakes Award; Best Auxiliary in Class AAA; Best Percussion in Class AAA; and Best Band in Class AAA.

The band is under the direction of Jon Lindsey, Nathan Randall, Larry Lashley, and Juli Smith. Percussion instructors are Daryl Wolgemuth, John Pirkey, and Taylor Cathy. Color Guard instructors are Cindy Gibson and Whitney Futch. Drum Major is Christina Jones, Drum Captain is Brandon Allen, Color Guard Captain is Serena Waller, and Color Guard Lieutenants are Tori Griggs and Courtney Beck. Their show theme, “A Tribute to New Orleans”, included the New Orleans Classic “Basin Street Blues” with saxophone soloists Viktor Miruchna and Erika Knott, the percussion feature “Zulu”, and “A Closer Walk with Thee” featuring Toby Miletello, Alycia Moore, John Ledbetter, and Nick McDonald. Congratulations to all the members of the Pride for all their hard work!
