Seventeen students from West Ridge Middle School qualified and chose to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program for mathematically and verbally gifted students. To be considered, these students must score in the 95th percentile or higher on an in-school ability measure and take the ACT or SAT in December or February.
Six of the seventeen participants have been designated state winners and have been invited to attend a recognition ceremony at Northwestern State University. These students were: Spencer Hutchinson, J.C. Perez, Harrison Steinbeck, Julianne Tippen, Garrett Wilkerson, and Rachel Bradley.
Rachel also qualified as a Grand Recognition Ceremony honoree. Out of 81,000 students taking the ACT or SAT, only 1,100 qualified for this honor. She has been invited to attend a ceremony at Duke University on May 23, 2005.
