Sunnie Ashbrook, Liaison Supervisor with Title I of Ouachita Parish, was recently honored at the 10th Annual Celebrate the Family Awards. Sunnie, a Ouachita Parish resident, goes all out to spread hope and optimism, often to those in the toughest circumstances. Professionally, she represents the Ouachita Parish School System program "Bridges of Ouachita," identifying and providing services to children of homeless families. In the current school year, over 500 homeless youth and families were identified in the parish and received services and support, including uniforms, school supplies, hygiene items, and school fees as well as tutoring and transportation. In her home life, Sunnie is a single mom to five-year-old Lowell and an active volunteer at his school, their church, and many other area organizations such as CASA, groups advocating for the homeless and youth, and the NELA Children's Coalition, where she teaches parenting classes. Despite her fast-paced, packed-to-the-brim schedule and work that is surely emotionally as well as intellectually taxing, Sunnie maintains her trademark enthusiasm, inner strength, and drive. These gifts and her faith are what make her such a gift to her son, her church, our community, and to families in the toughest times throughout Northeast Louisiana. Sunnie was nominated by Debbie Ducote, Title I Supervisor.
