Woodlawn Elementary is proud to announce that one of our students, Joseph Jones, was recently picked as one of seven students nationwide to be recognized by The Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation for his accomplishments. Joseph was chosen for this award through the "Light the Spark" teacher contest entered by Rosemary Ford, Woodlawn resource teacher. Mrs. Ford wrote an essay for the contest describing Joseph's success in overcoming his learning disability, as well as his unique strengths and resiliency in the face of difficulty. Joseph will receive a $50 U.S. savings bond on Awards Day and Mrs. Ford will receive a $50 gift certificate from Schlastic, Inc., a co-sponsor of the contest. The contest is open to U.S. teachers with students between the ages of 10 and 12 with learning disabilities. More information can be obtained from the Charles and Helen Schwab Foundation, 1650 S. Amphlett Blve., Suite 300, San Mateo, CA 94402-2516, or online at www.sparktop.com.
