The titles of Mr. and Miss West Monroe High School are two of the most prestigious honors awarded every year to two senior students at West Monroe High School. These students are nominated and chosen by their peers to represent the school. This year the student body chose Jared Peters and Cara Hatten to be those representatives.
Because this title is such an honor, students are extremely proud just to be nominated. “I was really thrilled and honored to even be on the ballot for Miss West Monroe. The other four girls on the ballot were great candidates.
To even be considered with them for this was an honor in itself,” said Cara Hatten.
Jared also felt honored. “It’s hard to describe how I feel about being thought of so highly by my classmates. The fact that I was named Mr. WMHS is hard to grasp even now. Each one of those guys whose name was on the ballot would have made a great Mr. WMHS. Being chosen from such a great group of guys really is an honor,” said Jared Peters.
The winners were announced to the student body on Friday morning at the homecoming assembly. “When they announced my name on Friday morning at the assembly, I was in a state of shock. Rising out of my seat, I thought to myself ‘Don’t trip, don’t trip.’ Luckily I made it on stage, and as nervous as I have ever been, I accepted the plaque,” said Jared.
“The first thing I thought was ‘Thank you, God.’ This great honor is truly a blessing from Him. I was so overwhelmed with gratitude and shock that I could have just cried! It was so wonderful! The whole week was like a dream,” said Cara.
Mr. and Miss West Monroe High School will always be remembered by their class as the two people who best represented the school. “I would hope that my class would remember me as a Godly person who represented their class well. I feel this is a real honor and blessing and I am so thankful that my classmates even considered me for this title,” said Cara.
“I would hope to be remembered as someone who made a positive impact in the lives of the people around him,” said Jared.
