Events: A. R. Red Sims Stadium to be Dedicated
Posted on Thursday, August 19 @ 12:51:41 CDT by aline

OPSB News At the July 6 Board Meeting, Superintendent Robert Webber presented Board Member A. R. “Red” Sims a proclamation authorizing the naming of the West Ouachita High School football stadium after him in honor of his lifetime of dedicated service to education and his community. Mickey Merritt, Principal of West Ouachita High School, and David Graves, employee of OPSB and former student of Sims initiated the idea to dedicate and name the football stadium. Representative Mike Walsworth authored the bill (Housebill No. 219, now Act 124 of the Louisiana House of Representatives). Mr. Sims met all the criteria in having served as a member of the school board in the parish where the stadium is located since being elected and taking office prior to 1990, and has served as a coach, athletic director and principal in the parish. Senator Bob Kostelka assisted in promoting the bill through the legislature. The Ouachita Parish School Board unanimously adopted the resolution naming the “The A. R. Red Sims Stadium” of West Ouachita High School. An official dedication ceremony will take place during the WOHS Jamboree on Thursday, August 26 in between the first and second games. A “meet and greet” reception in Sims honor will begin in the commons area of the school at 5:30 p.m. Family, friends, and fellow community members are invited to stop in and visit with Sims in celebration of this monumental occasion.
