The Swartz Upper Elementary school is one of 25 winners of a set of the 15 books on the 2005 ballot for the Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Award. The book award program is a reading enrichment initiative of the Louisiana Center for the Book and the State Library of Louisiana, generously supported by Hibernia National Bank.
Students in grades 3-5, under the guidance of Nancy Hay, librarian, read and voted on this year's books. This made the school eligible for a randon drawing to receive a free set of books offered by Hibernia National Bank. The list, compiled by school and public librarians, offers young readers a well balanced array of excellent, enjoyable books in various genres, including fiction, nonfiction, folklore, and poetry.
