Six students from Ouachita Parish High School attended the Governor's Program on Abstinence State Convention Sunday, April 4, through Tuesday, April 6. The students were Hannah Hammons, Coutney McGuffee, Amanda Sharp, Whitney Ryan, J.C. Clark, and Curtis Lipscomb. Jenifer Armstrong and Johnette Quijas. Faculty sponsors and Debra Hammons, community sponsor, also attended the conference. Amanda Sharp and Curtis Lipscomb were selected to be on the Student Leadership Council and will be attending a ten-day, all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. in July. Hannah Hammons won second place in the Oratory Competition. We are so proud of these students.
On Tuesday, thirty-seven more members from the OPHS GPA club attended the rally on the steps of the capitol. Coach Robert Mitcham chaperoned the bus trip. After the rally, the students ate a catered lunch on the lawn of the Governor's Mansion.
We are so proud of the students who are taking this stand and spreading the message of abstinence!!
